Performing Shakespeare:
Although this is a log of our prodcution project class of our play I found today's voice lesson on Shakeaspeare very useful in my understanding and development and Shakespeare's "As you like It".
Today we
were told in our Monday voice lesson that we have to get it out of our heads
that Shakespeare is academic. Despite what some people think Shakespeare is not
only for old professors with beards with highly-sought after universities
degrees to understand. Although people often take an academic view to
Shakespeare’s work he is ultimately very creative and the essence of this work
and what he is saying is very relatable to all people from a variety of
backgrounds and classes. A lot of what happens to this characters, although is
dramatized, is very relatable to us and explores feelings we have felt although
we live in a different era. As actors we have to ignite the original intention,
which actors and directors sometimes refer to as “the flame”, which Shakespeare
had behind his words. We are ultimately as actors still creating a real and
truthful world despite the language used. Don’t let the language put you off as
it is not about the words but the meaning behind those words.
